River reports – San River Poland

fly fishing in Poland

May 15th, 2010

First real day fishing this year – whole day on the river in good company. Streamers failed, dries worked for a while, but a PTN nymph was the winner.  Fish are active for quite a short period – from 11 am till 4 pm. Before and after river looks rather dead. Not too much flies hatching. Water level is medium.

Ok, there we go!

May 8th, 2010

River dropped and cleared quickly. Hope this will last for a longer while. I’m getting the tackle ready (well it always is..) for tomorrow.

oh no…

May 5th, 2010

After a very heavy storm and all night rain the river got high and dirty.  Hope that clears quickly.

Exploring the wild

May 2nd, 2010

Instead of fishing the San I’ve spent the long weekend up high in the mountains hiking and fishing some little streams. I was absolutely surprised by amount and quality of fish caught in really tiny creeks like the one on the picture. Some places were really scary, with more footprints of bears, wolves and deer than you could imagine.

May 1st, 2010

Finally river dropped to it’s perfect level (1 turbine running) and the fishing became possible.

Still high

April 25th, 2010

River is still high although has nicely cleared. Grayling stay around the places where have spawned, trout seem to sleep.

April 14th, 2010

Weather is ugly, river still high and cold. Grayling starts getting in big number around usual spawning places, however the spawning itself hasn’t started yet. Trout still not very active, but some of them attempt to rise to little duns and march browns present on the surface.

April 6th, 2010

I forgot to write earlier – storks came back and are now allover the place, repairing nests and eating all that looks crunchy. This one pictured here was kind of strange as I met him on the side of the road in dense forest – you usually see these birds on fields and open space… Was that an Easter hangover??

Water rise

April 5th, 2010

Water level has risen becoming too high to fish with pleasure. Grayling start gathering in usual spawning places – we’ve been watching some big fish yesterday.

Preparation to the season

April 2nd, 2010

Preparing ourselves to the new season includes some changes in the lodge as well as launching our own meat processing factory :-)
Since 2010 we will be serving only home made sausages,  hams and bacons prepared and smoked in the lodge, basing on my grandfather’s recipes. We are fulfilling our policy of serving only natural and first quality food.
