fly fishing in Poland

Happy New Year

January 5th, 2009

Surprisingly since early December water is being dropped from the lake. Probably guys at the dam are afraid after last summer’s dam integrity check by the huge flood.
This is the first real winter since 3 years, with a lot of snow. Temperatures as usually in January lower than in a freezer..

Last cold this year

December 31st, 2008

The year as usually ends with some significant cold – around minus 20 at night. Not much warmer during the day, so obviously no fishing. This was a tough year to us – fishing was not at its best due to horrible weather conditions and the biggest flood since 30 years. House construction has been a nightmare with unreliabe builders. But it is over now. We hope for a fantastic 2009 and will put more news from river San on 2009 river reports.website. Tight lines!

December's surprise

December 12th, 2008

Water is high and cold, but this river has simply the most amazing fishing on the planet. Imagine that in December, with a fairly low temperature, on  ice cold water there is lots of flies, and fish rise to take them!!! In an hour fishing I had 7 good size grayling and a trout. All on dry flies!

Little flies fever

November 12th, 2008

Fantastic weather for past few days – frost at night but up to 17 degrees during the day. Fishing is absolutely stunning with little size 20 dry flies, but only for 3-4 hours in the middle of the day. Grayling appeared suddenly and are everywhere!

English Ladies Team

October 15th, 2008

With the English Ladies team we had some fun and good fishing with nice weather conditions all week long. The owner of the local ice cream/cookie shop will be able to buy a brand new Porsche with this weeks profit ;-)

Friends Group

October 5th, 2008

The traditional October’s Friends Group again had some fantastic weather and good fishing, unfortunately spoiled by unreasonable opening of the dam which made the river unfisheable, luckily for a day only. Obviously another swing of conditions didn’t influence the fish in a positive way. Let this year end!
P.S.
I was so unfriendly to my guests that I caught a 50 cm grayling.. Sorry Pat!!

Not easy

September 28th, 2008

The river got back to low and clear, weather is beautifull, but catching fish is so hard! I think the swing of weather successfully blocked them in their holes.

Dunajec river

September 25th, 2008

Third this year trip to the Dunajec river – we are exploring a potentially new destination. The river surprised us each time with great amount of brown trout, this time we had some reasonable grayling as well. The wading is very hard and even dangerous. The only thing that spoiled our stay was the amount of rubbish found around us. We will reapeat these trips constantly, contact us if you want to participate.

Raining

September 20th, 2008

It rains non stop since Monday and finally the river got unfishable. It won’t clear in next few days. The forecast is not good, they anounce rain till half of the week. It is horribly cold – only 8 degrees, down to 4 at night. 5 centimeters of snow covers the upper parts of the mountains. What is that???

Paul Procter

September 19th, 2008

Paul Procter’s report: Despite a sudden drop in air temperature the hatches of fly were still quite incredible, resulting in swallows and martins hawking over the water in huge numbers. Of course, the fish fed hard too when during the early afternoon the rise intensified. Modest brown trout kept us busy, however, quality grayling could also be had by those prepared to search. They were usually found holding close to deeper water and responded to small spiders or dries presented dead-drift, with fish to 46cm and 30-40cm grayling common.
