Not again!
Monday, May 31st, 2010It rained all night. The river got coloured, but the upper part is fishable. Hope this is temporary, however I wonder where does all that water come from?

The river dropped another few centimetres, but stays in the upper average level. It is fishable with a little colour which doesn’t disturb at all. Weather is nice. Our friend Jan Siman, who runs a Czech nymphing masterclass for our guests, has fished the San for last two days and had a reasonable catch of both trout and grayling, mainly on nymphs.
They closed the overflows, 2 turbines are running which makes the fishing finally possible. Of course this isn’t what we would expect in June, but hey – after such a flood it isn’t bad! Comparing to the worse conditions last week the river dropped down by more than a meter and the flow is reduced from 236 cubic meters per second to 50.
The river dropped some 20 cm as they closed partially the overflows. Water is quite clear, but still a bit too high to fish.
Here it emerged!
Two days of good and warm weather cleared the water, although the level is still high. They are still dropping the water from the lakes, but all the tributaries are perfect and carry no more muddy water. I hope that within few days the river will be fisheable.
Benchwatching was our sport for last two days – a bench on the river bank, just in front of our house went for a dive. Usually it is more than a meter from the river.
It never stopped raining since the last post. Rivers look like my morning coffee. Olszanka pictured here – a tributary to the San is a river you could usually almost jump across.
It all started yesterday evening with a little rain. It rained hard all night, than all day today. We managed to get some fishing, Jerome even caught few nice fish (on dries in the pouring rain!) but the rain didn’t stop for a while. In the evening the river was already in flood. Looks like we were lucky cause in other parts of Poland some villages were washed out!
First real day fishing this year – whole day on the river in good company. Streamers failed, dries worked for a while, but a PTN nymph was the winner. Fish are active for quite a short period – from 11 am till 4 pm. Before and after river looks rather dead. Not too much flies hatching. Water level is medium.
River dropped and cleared quickly. Hope this will last for a longer while. I’m getting the tackle ready (well it always is..) for tomorrow.
