Thursday, May 22nd, 2008High, cold water (7 degrees Celcius) has been a feature of this spring, and
consequent mixed fishing, sometimes very difficult with grayling particularly reluctant to rise to dry fly. Nonetheless, some good fishing has been enjoyed by most of our groups. The river has been very quiet in the main part, until the opening of the grayling season on 1st June. It is now becoming quiet again. Water levels have at last dropped, though the water remains cold and rising fish are sporadic. It is bound to warm up soon (late this year) and the hatches will be overwhelming.
Water is very cold and still high, nicely clear, but too cold for the fish to be active throughout the day.
